Celebrate Women's History Month with Auxiliary Captain Marie Lewis
This week, we’d like to introduce you to Auxiliary Captain Marie Lewis. She has been the officer at The Salvation Army of Kenosha for the past year. Two years before that, she was the corps administrator. Corps administrators do not have the rank, but they hold the same responsibilities 
as an officer. The person will start as a soldier (a member of the church) at a corps and are then appointed by the corps officers.
What makes auxiliary captains different than other officers? These individuals do not attend the College for Officers Training as other officers do. A/Captains receive more on the job training and take online courses to receive credit toward becoming an officer.
In her day to day activities, A/Captain Lewis leads her employees, shares Christ in whatever way possible, and oversees the day to day programs and events The Salvation Army does in the Kenosha community.
Marie said she heard her calling six years ago when she was volunteering at The Salvation Army of Waukesha.
Now that Marie is running her own worship and community center, she said she enjoys being able to use the gifts of administration and encouragement that God gave her.
“God has blessed me with wonderful staff and corps people,” she said. “It’s not for the faint of heart as it has a lot of long days, but it is very exciting and rewarding.”
When asked what she believes the world should know about The Salvation Army, she said it’s important for the public to know it cannot be done alone. It takes many to accomplish caring for the needy and sometimes forgotten. Not only are the people important, she believes faith and compassion are big components.
“We as a church of believers in Christ do all the other programs because we want to show the love of God to the community around us,” Lewis said.
This ties in with her favorite scripture. Marie said her favorite scripture is Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Marie said she knows that she is just a vessel, not a solution, which God uses to help other’s find their solutions. She also said she understand that He is utilizing her gifts to complete His purpose for good.
