Cleveland, Ohio (October 11, 2018) – October is National Chiropractic Health Month, and HealthSource, America’s largest group of chiropractic clinics, will reduce its fee for new patient exams to just $20, then donate the $20 back to The Salvation Army to combat opioid addiction. The offer is valid October through December at all participating HealthSource clinics across the country.

Chiropractic, along with physical therapy, massage, and acupuncture, are non-opioid pathways for treating chronic back and neck pain. These alternative treatments are included in the Opioid Crisis Response Act, which has bipartisan support in Congress and is expected to be enacted later this year.

Treatment centers are also a big component of the Opioid Crisis Response Act legislation. The Salvation Army operates 139 drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers to help people overcome addiction. These centers are on the frontline of the opioid crisis, and the HealthSource fundraising campaign will be used for individual therapy and group and individual consulting to help residents abandon substance abuse. The Salvation Army has more no-fee residential treatment facilities than any other rehab program in America.

“Through our partnership, I have had the opportunity to interact with the teams at rehabilitation centers operated by The Salvation Army across the country,” said Dr. Chris Tomshack, CEO and founder of HealthSource. “These individuals put in long hours to help others, and the work they do is so important today as our country battles the opioid crisis.”

In 2017, Americans became more aware of the important role The Salvation Army plays in combating opioid addiction through numerous media stories about the unique partnership with HealthSource.  Consumers also learned about the effectiveness of non-surgical and non-drug treatments for pain. This year, along with fundraising, education remains an important element of the campaign. In addition to funds raised by clinics through new patient exams, HealthSource will be collecting donations from patients in exchange for $5 in wellness dollars and will be offering smoothie breaks for employers in exchange for donations to The Salvation Army.

“The Salvation Army has been passionately combating addiction in the lives of men and women since its earliest days,” said Lt. Col. Ward Matthews, National Community Relations and Development Secretary for The Salvation Army. “Joining HealthSource to raise funds for our services, as well as awareness of alternatives to opioids, is a win for everyone.”
