National Salvation Army Week to be Celebrated in Greater Green Bay

Green Bay, Wis. - The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay is celebrating the 64th National Salvation Army Week with a variety of events to thank the community for their support and raise awareness of its services in Brown County.

National Salvation Army Week was first declared by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954 and has since been celebrated the week following Mother's Day. At the declaration President Eisenhower said in part  "Among Americans, The Salvation Army has long been a symbol of wholehearted dedication to the cause of human brotherhood."

The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay is celebrating National Salvation Army Week through outreach events and Kroc Center and Thrift Store promotions.

National Salvation Army Week Events:

  • "Daily Bread" distribution: Salvation Army team members will be at Cabela's from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm and the Kroc Community Center at 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, May 18 distributing 100 free loaves of Uncle Mikes Bread at each location as well as information on their programs and ways to get involved. The first "Daily Bread" event of the week was held at Fleet Farm East on Tuesday, May 15.
  • Community Rummage Sale: Local vendors and stores as well as Green Bay residents will be selling new and used items at The Salvation Army's West Green Bay location, 626 Union Court from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 19. 

National Salvation Army Week Promotions:

  • The Salvation Army Kroc Community Center Membership Sale, May 14-19, new members will have their $35 registration fee waived in celebration of National Salvation Army Week.
  • The Salvation Army Kroc Community Center "Community Day," May 17, 5:00 am - 9:00 pm, day pass fees will be waived and the community is welcome to enjoy all the open areas of the Kroc Community Center.
  • The Salvation Army Thrift Store "Sidewalk Sale Event," Thursday, May 17, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. Customers will find treasures while supporting Salvation Army programming during the all day 50% off storewide sale. A free hot dog lunch will be served from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. 
  • The Salvation Army Kroc Community Center Family Fun Night, Friday, May 18, 5:00 - 7:00 pm. Members and guests are welcome to join for a "Salvation Army" themed Family Fun Night. Weather permitting, the event will be held outdoors near the playground at the Kroc Community Center, 1315 Lime Kiln Road. The event will feature bounce houses, Salvation Army games, music from The Salvation Army Kroc Church Praise Team, Salvation Army Shield shaped cookies, and more. Attendees are also welcome to use the pool and gym. Members are welcome to attend the event at no cost, public cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Event attendees are asked to check in at the Membership Services Desk when they arrive.

The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is a fitness, wellness, support, education, recreation, and cultural arts center, made possible through the overwhelming generosity of many local donors and a substantial gift from the late philanthropist Mrs. Joan Kroc.
