Renovations to Emergency Shelter Complete

LA CROSSE – Renovations to The Salvation Army Emergency Shelter’s security and family sleeping areas have been completed.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Monday, May 13th in celebration of the end of construction, which began in mid-January.  Renovations to the shelter included adding a secure access entry to the Emergency Shelter, two additional family sleeping areas by dividing current space and adding security measures throughout the rest of the building.

The Salvation Army will also honor Ron Schnick with a plaque that will be placed in the entryway of the entrance.  A former member of the Advisory Board from 1971-2007, Ron’s influence was instrumental in the Salvation Army’s first renovation in 1990.

“He saw great potential in what having an emergency shelter could do for our community,” said Major Jeff Richardson of The Salvation Army. “What better way is there to honor his memory, than to have his name be the first thing you see when you walk through the shelter doors?”

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 9:00 am outside the Emergency Shelter entrance, located at 223 North 8th Street.  For more information, please call The Salvation Army at (608) 782-6126 or visit www.SALacrosse.org.
