‘SHARING FOR THE SHELTER’ CAMPAIGN TEAMS UP WITH GIVING TUESDAY TO MEET A NEED IN THE SALVATION ARMY OF DANE COUNTY HOMELESS SHELTERS
‘Sharing for the Shelter’ begins on the same day as Giving Tuesday and aligns with The Salvation Army’s Kettle Campaign Match Days.

MADISON, WI, November 26, 2018 – The Salvation Army of Dane County provided approximately 26,000 nights of shelter in the past year and is in desperate need of new or gently used full-size bath towels, mittens, and gloves for all the clients and guests coming through the Army’s halls.

“We have a few pairs of gloves left, but we go through them so quickly this time of year,” said Melissa Sorensen, Executive Director of Social Services with The Salvation Army of Dane County. “We have a need for kid sizes, adult sizes, and anyone in between!” she continued.

In October of 2017, The Salvation Army launched the “Sharing for the Shelter” campaign requesting blankets. The campaign was an unprecedented success, bringing in literal vanloads of linens, blankets, and sheets to provide to guests in the shelter, clients moving into permanent housing, and to line the Army’s closet shelves. The success of last year’s campaign has inspired this year’s request for bath towels and gloves. The 2018 Sharing for the Shelter campaign will run for two weeks from Tuesday, November 27 through December 11.

The Sharing for the Shelter campaign aligns with Giving Tuesday, the charitable aspect of Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping. Donors and supporters can use the good deals available during this time of year to make an impact on neighbors in need this holiday season. For those without towels or gloves to donate, there are three Saturday Match Days left during the Red Kettle Campaign where gifts to the kettle will be matched by local philanthropic organizations.

December 8th – Associated Bank
December 15th – McFarland State Bank
December 22nd – National Guardian Life

Sharing for the Shelter donations are accepted at the following Salvation Army locations:
·    630 E. Washington Ave. in Madison, WI 53703
·    3030 Darbo Drive in Madison, WI 53714
