Start Your Emergency Kit With These 8 Items

Apr 30, 2015 | by Krachel Greenwood

Throughout the year — and especially during the summer storm season — it’s important to be prepared for an emergency. Consider assembling an emergency kit, and begin with these 8 items:

  1. Food - at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food, and a can opener if needed
  2. Water - one gallon per person, per day
  3. First-aid and medications - a first-aid kit, and at least a week's supply of your prescription medications
  4. Flashlight and radio - along with extra batteries for both
  5. Hygiene Items - toothbrush, soap, shampoo, etc.
  6. Important Family Documents - including contact information and copies of insurance policies
  7. Matches - stored in a waterproof container
  8. Basic Tools - multipurpose knife or tool, and duct tape

Include additional items based on factors such as weather, and your individual or family needs. Remember, being prepared is the best way to protect yourself and your family!
