TSA Impersonators Scam Local Neighborhood for Disaster Relief Donations

MADISON, WI – The Salvation Army of Dane County has been made aware of a door-to-door disaster donation scam following the explosion in Sun Prairie.

This morning, authorities at The Salvation Army were made aware of two young African American women claiming to represent TSA while traveling door-to-door in the Nakoma-Midvale Boulevard area. The women had no official identification, but presented falsified paperwork claiming to request donations for disaster relief efforts. Though spotted in this specific neighborhood, neighbors of the greater Madison area are encouraged to be on the lookout for false agency representatives and to only donate directly through disaster relief organizations.

The Salvation Army never engages in door-to-door donation requests. The only trustworthy and verifiable means of donating, in support of disaster relief or otherwise, are at the kettles on weekdays and Saturdays, online, or by sending donations directly to the Darbo Drive building. Sharing this information widely can prevent charity scams from being successful and direct donations and volunteers to true disaster relief efforts that are ongoing in Sun Prairie.
