The Salvation Army needs help to ‘Feed the Kids’ this summer

LA CROSSE – The Salvation Army is asking for your help to make sure no children go hungry this summer.

‘Feed the Kids’ is a program that offers children and families free lunches during summer vacation.  The purpose of this program is to help alleviate the pressure of affording meals for families that utilize free or reduced lunch programs and do not have access to schools that continue those programs in the months of June, July, and August.  The Salvation Army collaborates with The La Crosse School District to determine the drop off locations for the lunches.

Ongoing support is needed throughout the program to keep up with the demand for meals.  The most needed items include:

-    Plastic Spoons
-    Paper Lunch Bags
-    Juice Boxes
-    Bottled Water
-    Single serving cups of Pudding, Jello, and/or Applesauce
-    Single serving snacks, crackers, fruit snacks, and granola bars

“We are so blessed to serve in a community that supports needed programs such as ‘Feed the Kids’,” said Major Jeff Richardson of The Salvation Army. “Last year we were in need of peanut butter for the lunches, and within a week we had pallets of donations that stocked our pantry.”

‘Feed the Kids’ kicks off for the 16th year on Thursday, June 6th.  Donations can be dropped off at The Salvation Army’s offices at 223 N. 8th Street in La Crosse.  For more information such as route times and how to volunteer for the program: please call The Salvation Army at (608) 782-6126 or visit www.SALacrosse.org.
