The Salvation Army of Racine To Open New Food Pantry

RACINE - The Salvation Army of Racine will host a grand opening of its new "Choice Food Pantry" next week.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Wednesday, February 19 from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at The Salvation Army of Racine, 1901 Washington Ave.

The "Choice Food Pantry", which will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon, will give clients the opportunity to pick their own food from the shelves, versus picking up pre-bagged food like they have done for the past five years.

"Food has been left outside our doors each week," said Major Cindy Nicolai. "After some discussion, our volunteers more are interested in working closer with clients versus packing a bag for a person they haven't met."

The pantry will serve residents in Racine, with a focus on the 53402 and 53403 zip codes. Recipients must be a resident of Racine, provide a state ID/drivers license (adults) and birth certificates/immunization records (children).

"We will depend on donations from the public, The Emergency Food Assistance Program and the Racine County Food Bank," Nicolai said.

If you would like to donate to the pantry, please stop by The Salvation Army of Racine, 1901 Washington Ave., Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
