Volunteer Spotlight: Anita Quinn

Apr 12, 2023

April is National Volunteer Month and we are so excited to highlight our fantastic volunteers and thank them for their efforts all year long. Today we are shining the spotlight on Anita Quinn, a volunteer at The Salvation Army's Bread of Life Center in Hancock since the fall of 2022. Learn more about Anita's experience volunteering below!

Why did you decide to volunteer with the salvation army?

My education and experience centers around building teams, human resource administration, and facilitating process improvement. What a wonderful opportunity for me to start with a fairly new team in the Bread of Life Center in Hancock. Since I started engaging with the in the fall of 2022, friendships have developed and the team has begun working together to develop several processes and team communications improvements (e.g. case intake process, daily "huddle times", established regular staff and adming support meetings, installed and use whiteboards for community events, and the internal Director's schedule).

What events and programs have you volunteered for within the salvation armY?

I have participated in weekly food and fellowship with clients, and a weekly ukulele group called "Yooperleles" as well as served in weekly meetings as a Service Unit Member. Right now, my favorite part about volunteering at The Salvation Army is making new friends while at the same time, having the opportunity to utilize my gifts to share.

What is your favorite part about volunteering with the salvation army?

The most gratifying experience thus far is seeing the team functioning with a new enthusiasm, to pray with this team as we gather for meetings, and to watch the activities at the Bread of Life Center increase with the support of a quite diverse staff and volunteers. It reminds me how important it is to respond to pain with love, affirm all people's worth, and then pray for their conviction and ultimate conversion.

What has been your favorite experience while volunteering with the salvation army?

I believe my efforts are truly supporting preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting human needs in His name. Although it has only been six months of working with this group and in our local community, I am truly looking forward to meeting and working with other volunteers and brining people to know the love of Jesus Christ.
