About 15 percent of the homeless population is comprised of "chronically homeless" Individuals.

This population is most vulnerable during the hottest and coldest months of the year.

The Salvation Army provides safe shelter to thousands of people every night through:

Emergency Shelters

Emergency shelter may be provided for those individuals and families who qualify as being homeless. Warm and safe surroundings are provided along with the assistance from trained professionals to help people gain stability in their lives and work toward a certain amount of independence.

- Stevens Point

- Waukesha

- Wausau

Transitional Programs

Transitional housing programs provide temporary residence—up to 24 months—for people experiencing homelessness. Housing is combined with wrap-around services to assist the individual with developing stability in their lives.

Transitional programs are located in:

- Madison

- Milwaukee

Permanent Supportive Housing

Permanent Supportive Housing provides permanent housing and supportive services to chronically homeless individuals and families with histories of homelessness to ensure housing stabilization, maximum levels of self-sufficiency and an overall better quality of life. Potential residents complete an assessment which helps target how best to assist them in retaining their supportive housing.
